Synopsis
60年代初，一场罕见的持续三年的自然灾害席卷中国的大江南北。数千名孤儿来到内蒙古大草原上，他们被分配到各牧民家中，度过困难岁月。 年轻漂亮的姑娘苏日娜从乡政府领回六个孩子，驾着马车赶回家。她为孩子们换上新蒙族衣服，教他们吃手扒肉，并给每人起了个蒙族名字。 苏日娜的男朋友巴图为了能建一个大蒙古包与她结婚而在外地打工，他偶尔回来看到六个孩子，很不理解，让她只留下一个，将其余的送走……
