Basedonthe13thCenturyBorneosacrificialrituals,“CurseoftheTotem”tellsthestoryofDr.Saniwhogoesinsearchofhiswife,whodisappearedonagenealogyexpeditiontostudytheancientmythicallegendofJerunei‘BurialPolesoftheindigenousMelanautribeinBorneo.Burialpolesmarkburialstillexisttodayasgravestones,markingthelossofotherhumanlivesthatweresacrificedonbehalfofprosperousnobility.HumansacrificewasoutlawedinSarawakProvinceinthe18thCentury.CombingthroughtheBorneojungleforanswers,eachmemberofDr.Sani’steamexperiencesinexplicablehallucinations,maliciousdisturbancesandeventuallyarehauntedbyunexplainedspiritsofthedead.Thingstakeaturnfortheworsewhenoneofthemiscompletelypossessedbyevilforces.
